Our self talk has direct authority over shaping our lives, experiences, self worth, and whether or not we take successful actions towards what we want. These internal conversations focus on what we currently believe about ourselves – whether they’re true or not.

You are what you think about most!

If you don’t treat your material items like garbage, then why do your thoughts treat yourself like garbage? With approximately 60k thoughts a day, your thoughts are the most important asset you should take care of. If you think negatively, you’ll experience negativity, it’s a law of the universe.

Negative Thoughts

  • I’m a failure
  • Nothing works for me
  • I’m not worth it
  • I am not capable
  • Why does this happen to me?
  • I don’t have the skills

Positive Thoughts

  • I always feel amazing
  • I’m in control of my life
  • I make great things happen
  • I can do anything I want
  • I’m good enough

In the Success Principles of TeensJack Canfield states,

Taking full responsibility for our lives means that we must take control of our thoughts because our thoughts affect everything we do.

By taking full responsibility for our lives and our thoughts, we can take control back of our minds and start thinking more positively about ourselves and the world around us. In doing so, inevitably, your thoughts will direct you to start taking more successful actions with each passing day.

Positive Internal Conversations Inspire Successful Actions


  1. Notice the thoughts you have throughout the day
  2. Write your top five thoughts you had about yourself each day
  3. Cross out the thoughts you no longer want to have
  4. Write the positive (opposite) thoughts next to those you crossed out

Questions to Answer:

  • Am I currently producing the results I desire?
  • How can I improve?
  • What thoughts and actions should I stop doing?
  • What do successful actions look like for me?

A great tip from Jack Canfield is,

If you want to change what you already say to yourself, you will have to constantly remind yourself of what you’d like to say.  Put the list next to your bed or tape to your bathroom mirror.  This will remind you each day of your new empowering self-statements.”
